JUNCTION OF THE GASCONADE AND MISSOURI RIVERS ON THE ROUTE OF THE SCENIC LIMITED
Back:
POST CARD
PUBLISHED BY MISSOURI PACIFIC RAILROAD
C. L. STONE. PASSENGER TRAFFIC MANAGER, ST LOUIS
Eighty-eight miles West of St. Louis on its
way across picturesque Missouri to Kansas City
the Missouri Pacific crosses the Gasconade near
its junction with the grand old Missouri.
The Missouri Pacific was the first railroad un-
der construction West of the Mississippi River.
| Work began July 4, 1851, and the first train
was operated to Kansas City on October 2, 1865,
the construction of the line having been delayed
largely on account of the Civil War.
Naturally the most desirable route was se-
lected by the builders, and the Missouri Pacific
stands today as the popular line between Mis-
rouri's two great commercial centers-St. Louis
and Kansas City.
No, 18.
