At a first glance one might almost think these men were trout fishing, but they are engaged in a much more dangerous sport. They are hunting the elephant, the largest and most dangerous of all the jungle beasts. In many places the undergrowth is so thick that the hunters find it easier to use the bed of a stream, as you can see them doing in this picture. If an elephant charges when the hunter is in the winter it is a case of killing the monster at first shot or losing one's life.
