First Gold in California was discovered in 1848 on his ranch. Gold
hunters despoiled his property and he died before Congress
did anything to restore it. His age was 77 and he is
buried in the northeast corner of the Moravian
graveyard at Lititz. His last home
was at 17 East Main Street
