VENTURA, CALIFORNIA
Ventura is a modern town, county seat of Ventura County, with
a large part of its income derived from oil and farming. Ventura
is a corruption of Buenaventura, meaning, "good fortune". The
area around town had been populous when Father Junipero
Serra established the mission on March 31, 1782. Richard Dana
spoke of the mission gardens as the finest in the whole country.
Today there is none of this garden left... M.P.
