LAKE TAHOE
Lake Tahoe, located partly in Placer and El Dorado counties,
California and partly in the state of Nevada, lies 6,225 feet
above sea level. It is remarkable for its great depth, which
together with its variable bottom, seems to account for its
exquisite colors of lapis lazuli, then it turns to jade, purple
or a silver gray. The name is an Indian word that means "Big
Water" or "deep" or "blue". Around the lake are a great
number of camps and cabins...M.P.
