This monument was erected on the top of
Telegraph Hill in memory of Lillie Hitcock
Coit from funds left by her to beautify San
Francisco. From Telegraph Hill a most mar-
velous never to be forgotten day or night
view is obtained of the entire San Francisco
Bay area including Alcatraz Island, recently
established as a Federal Prison.
