SUTTER CREEK, CALIFORNIA
On Highway 49 (Main Street) looking North, in
the historical Mother Lode Country, was named
after General John A. Sutter, who built his first
sawmill on Sutter Creek, and under his regime
gold was discovered. The old Eureka Mine, nearby,
produced for Leland Stanford the money for
investment in the Central Pacific Railroad from
which he reaped his millions.
