The Bay View Hotel was built in 1870 by Joseph
Arano, son-in-law of General Castro who was the
original owner of Rancho Aptos by a grant from the
Mexican Governor in 1833. Today the hotel is of great
interest to vacationers in the Monterey Bay area.
