French Lick Springs, in Cumberland foothills, was
settled by the French; site of mineral springs &
salt deposits. First hotel opened 1837; The Spring's
"MIRACLE WATERS” attracted people from afar.
Hotel burned 1897; was restored; gained promi-
nence internationally as health resort, convention
center, political headquarters. Acquired by Shera-
ton Corp. - 1955, with 2600 acre grounds; has 600
newly-decorated rooms, 2 golf courses, Badminton,
volleyball, horseshoes, softball, shuffleboard, cro-
quet, 2 swim pools, riding horses, tennis, skeet-
trap shooting, mineral baths, massages, 20 function
