THE U.S. NAVY SUPERSONIC F8U “CRUSADER"
The F8U CRUSADER, produced by the Chance Vought Aircraft Com-
pany of Dallas, Texas, holds the world's record for crossing the United
States from California to New York in 3 hours 23.8 minutes. The plane is
54 ft. long, wing span 35 ft. and is 15 ft. high. The CRUSADER capable of
speeds over 1,000 miles per hour is now operating from super-carriers of the
U. S. Navy as the fastest naval fighter in the world. Its "Variable Inci-
dence” wing, which allows for extreme high speeds, yet permits a normal
low-speed carrier landing, is a new innovation in aircraft design.
