British Museum, London.-The most import-
ant Storehouse of treasure in the world is situate in
Great Russell Street, close to Russell Square and
other interesting features of Bloomsbury dear to
Thackeray and Dickens. Its foundation was due
to Sir Hans Sloane who, in 1753 left. 50,000 books
and other collections to the nation, in consideration
of a nominal price. The present gready enlarged
building was completed in 1847.
