Oteomargarine Bill Favorably Reported to Senate
CHICAGO, Feb. 24, 1902.
MY DEAR SI The Öleomargarine Bill was favorably reported by the Senate Com-
mittee on Agricultur and Forestry Saturday, after being considered one week. This is much
prompter action than we had anticipated, therefore we urge those who are circulating peti-
tions to forward them to their senators by Saturday of this week if possible, as the Senate
may act upon the bill next week.
An attempt will be made in the Senate, as was attempted in the House, to substitute
The measure known as the
he oleomargarine makers' measure, for our bill, H. R. 9206.
"Wadsworth Substitute" was framed by the oleomargarine interests, and has been twice re-
jected in the House.
it paves the way for breaking down instead of upholding the laws of the states by letting
colored oleomargarine in where state laws now forbid.
We request that when sending in your petitions you write your senators protesting
against the substitution of any other measure for H. R. 9206, particularly the substitution of
the Wadsworth Bill, as that would bring about a condition worse than we now have.
