DINKEY CREEK BRIDGE ... Built of
D Structural Douglas Fir ... Teco Ring
Connectors ... Span, 90 ft.; roadway width,
20 ft.; specifications, A.A.S.H.O., loading
H 15; material, 38,900 f.b.m. select struc-
tural grade Douglas fir; 992 split ring tim-
ber connectors; 5120 lbs. other hardware
and steel. Engineering features: all joints
lapped for greater stiffness and ease of
framing; heel joint tension splice takes ad-
vantage of minimum splice stress and puts
bearing on end grain instead of side grain;
stresses in joints transmitted through mod-
ern split ring timber connectors permits
use of timber tension members, makes
costly metal parts unnecessary; method of
floor beam suspension and use of timber
tension members reduces effects of shrink-
age which requires repeated maintenance;
arched form of top chord produces more
uniform stress in chords, reduces stresses
in web members and simplifies connec-
tions; prototype bridge completely pre-
fabricated before shipment to bridge site;
