God took a gem of great beauty,
Wondrous, cleav, sparkling and coot:
He made, with the hands of a genius,
A set for this opalized pool.
High on the top of a mountain,
He moulded the rim with great care,
Then put the water of Tahoe,
Placed so his subjects might share.
He gilded the peaks with sunset,
With moonlight, burnished the wave-
Wove in the hues of the rainhow,
Remember-He promised to save.
