12,429A 54 ANNUAL BLACK MEADOW BOAT CRUISE FROM BLACK MEADOW LANDING TO NEEDLES, CALIF. This popular boat cruise is held the first part of May each year. A queen is elected to reign over the cruise the evening before departure. The cruise leaves Black Meadow Landing eight miles above Parker Dam on Lake Havasu in groups of about twenty-five boats. Each group is under the direction of a competent guide who knows the lake and river channels. The first group leaves at 7:30 A. M. Saturday morning and a group follows each half-hour thereafter until all boats are accommodated. The cruise travels up Lake Havasu and the Colorado River through the beautiful Devil's Elbow area to the Marina at Needles, Calif. Gas stops are made at Havasu Landing and at Topock, Ariz. at Shorty's Landing. Boaters making the trip are met at Needles by courtesy cars provided by the motel owners of Needles. Golf, swimming, and skiing are en- joyed during the afternoon. The people of Needles furnish entertainment and dancing Saturday evening. Boaters spend Saturday night in motels in Needles or camped out on the beaches at the Marina. The return boat trip to Black Meadow Landing is made Sunday morning at the boaters' individual discretion.
