GHOST MOUNTAIN RANCH
This old western rebuilt town is along highway 49
east of Placerville. This is a country rich in
Western History. It was not far from this ranch
that two stages were held up on the night of June
30, 1864. Only bullion and a small box was taken.
The leader gave a note to one of the stage drivers.
"This is to certify that I have received from
Wells, Fargo and Co. the sum of $. ....... cash for
the purpose of outfitting recruits enlisted in
California for the Confederate States Army. R.
Henry Ingrim, Captain Commd’g Co. C.S.A. June
1864'. Two of the highwaymen were arrested in
the Thirteen Mile House and two more were sur-
prised at Somerset where they killed the sheriff
and escaped ... M.P.
