The General Slocum was one of the most popular excursion boats in the New York area. “It had three decks, built of wood, which extended the entire length of the vessel. The pilot house was on the hurricane deck, and on this deck were life- boats and rafts, the boats being hung on davits outboard and the rafts lying on deck at the outside rail.” The picture is from the collection of Janet and Roger Campbell.
