The PLACER HOTEL has a very fine Coffee
Shop in connection. In 1911 the Hotel was
built, and while the excavating was being done
it is said that enough gold was found to pay
for the construction. Situated on the main
street which in the early days was Last Chance
Gulch, named by the first men who discov-
ered gold only two or three blocks away from
the hotel, after days of search for gold they
had just about given up when one of them
made the remark, "Let's try once more, this
will be the Last Chance," and so it was as
they did discover the gold in plentiful quanti-
ties. The Hotel has 150 rooms.
