In 1938 we won our first battle against the powerful financial interests. We elected a people's government. We must retain ởur social gains and continue our defense and war program, in close and friendly cooperation with President Roosevelt's war ad- ministration. A new State administration, hostile to Roosevelt, would only serve the partisan purposes of the reactionary Republicans. In this election "non-partisan" means Republican. Our opponents know that my defeat would mean the defeat of President Roosevelt, whom they hate, and whom I have always so consistently supported.
