His Royal Highness Prince Edward, the eldest son of
His Majesty King George, and Heir Apparent to the
Throne, was born on June 23rd, 1894, and was create
Prince of Wales on the occasion of his sixteenth birthday,
the investiture taking place on July 13th, 1911, in Carnarvon
Castle. In Carnarvon was born, in 1284, Edward II., the
first son of an English monarch to bear the title of Prince
of Wales. His Royal Highness, who has received two
years' education and naval training on the “Britannia,”
períormed his first public ceremony at Dartmouth in March,
1911, when he returned to the Mayor and Corporation the
silver oar which they had formerly held as a symbol of the
rights associated with the Bailiwick of the Water of Dart-
mouth.
