thedral of this diocese is on the corner
of Van Ness Avenue and O'Farrell
Street. Old St. Mary's on California
Street and Grant Avenue (once the Ca-
thedral church) was prey for the flames
in 1906. Only the walls were left, but
they were so well built that they es-
caped injury and the church was re-
stored on its old lines.
