A NEW ERA WILL DAWN IF WE TURN OUR
FACES TO THE SUNLIGHT.
A thirty-year member of the Theosophical Society I
want to see it rise even beyond its heights of the past.
I first looked hopefully, longingly, and then vainly for
this upward trend in Mr. Rogers' administration; but a
full year of his absolute control of its affairs reveals back-
ward rather than forward steps and no constructive ideals.
The charge of autocracy against Mr. Rogers has just-
ification. I saw its cloven foot and its steam roller at the
last Convention when he defied parliamentary rules.. He
remained Chairman, acting as his own judge, when the
administration of which he was chief was on trial. He
entertained a resolution which meant a blanket endorse-
ment of the administration, past and present, and therefore
he, and not the Progressives, precipitated the attack upon
ex-President Warrington. I have found a much better
spirit among the Progressives than among the Administra-
tion supporters.
Mr. Rogers, having broken the "sore-toe" promise
which he made in the Messenger, I cannot see how we
can ever believe anything he says in the Messenger in the
future.
Because of the absence of constructive work by Mr.
Rogers this year, which must be taken as a forecast for
next year, I turned to Miss Holbrook to see what plat-
form she proposed. The first word that struck me with
unique force was "togetherness." That was the very thing
which brought me to Krotona, for I came to see if I could
find some way of bringing harmony out of contention, and
substituting co-operation and constructive work.
Theosophy is dear to all of us, so let us make it a liv-
ing power in our lives by remaining united in harmonious
endeavor. I favor Miss Holbrook because she speaks of
getting together "without exception," and because she
speaks of self-government in a way that indicates that she
is in full sympathy with pure democracy.
For fifty years democracy has been a vital part of my
life, and I believe that Theosophic democracy is the di-
vine benefactor of mankind. Miss Holbrook's platform
embodies this ideal, and therefore I shall advocate Miss
Holbrook's election with my whole heart and soul.
