The 1982 Cal Poly Rose Float, “Way-out Welcome" will
be seen in the 93rd Pasadena Tournament of Roses
Parade on January 1, 1982. What better depicts this
year's parade theme, “Friends and Neighbors”, than a
way-out greeting given to three astronauts by the
friendly inhabitants of a far-off planet. The project is the
joint effort of students from the two Cal Poly University
campuses of Pomona and San Luis Obispo and is the
only float in the parade which is completely designed,
constructed, decorated, and financed by students. Many
of the materials used in building the float are donated by
business firms from across the United States.
