The 1985 Cal Poly Rose Float entitled “Only in
America' depicts the 96th Pasadena Tournament of
Roses Parade theme, “The Spirit of America",
through 9 adventuresome Americans exploring,
hangliding, mountain climbing, surfing, and
rocketing into the future. This 37th float entry from
the two Cal Poly Universities of Pomona and San Luis
Obispo further exhibits the theme of the parade by
being the only float which is completely designed,
constructed, decorated, and financed by students.
This spirit is also expressed by donations from
businesses across the United States who provide us
with many materials used in building the float.
