Mission La Purisima at Lompoc, California, was the eleventh of
the 21 to be built. It was completely destroyed by earthquake
long ago and rebuilt on slightly different location and was quite
likely the largest in the entire chain of missions. Upper right:
Shallow pool was used by the Indians for bathing and washing of
clothes. Upper left: Lengthy colonade served many purposes and
was common entry to the many work rooms and quarters of the
mission.
