TELESCOPES IN EDUCATION
Mount Wilson Telescope
The 24-inch Newtonian (reflecting) telescope on Mount Wilson, Cali-
fornia, at sunset. This telescope was used in the early 1960s to observe
the Moon and provide proof that the lunar surface was solid enough to
support a landing during the Apollo missions. This restored, automated
instrument is operated remotely by students and teachers around the
world through Telescopes in Education (TIE).
