EVENING IN OAKLAND CALIFORNIA.
From Lakeside Park, showing, across
the small arm of the Salt Water Lake,
Oaklands City Hall and a glimpse
of her skyline...
Along the west,the golden bars
Still to a deeper glory grew;
Above our heads the few faint stars
Looked out from the unfathamed blue;
And the fair Citys clamorous jars
Seemed melted in the evening hue.
