SALTON SEA, California
This inland sea far below sea level was formed
in 1907 when the Colorado River jumped its
banks and threatened to wipe out the entire
Imperial Valley. A heroic and million dollar
battle eventually saved an inland empire but
the Salton Sea lived on.
