Elevation 238 feet below sea-level. First notations of the Salton Sea were made in 1853. The Salton Sea as we know it now was formed in 1905, 1906, and 1907 by overflow of flood waters of the Colorado River. It is about 32 miles long and 13 1/4 miles wide. Evaporation from the surface is about 7 feet yearly. |
