P2897 SALTON SEA BEACH ON SALTON SEA Elevation 238 feet below sea-level First notations of the Salton Sea were made in 1853. The Salton Sea as we know it now was formed in 1905, 1906, and 1907 by overflow of flood waters of the Colorado River. It is about 32 miles long and 1314 miles wide.
