FIRST CAPITAL
This was the first Capitol building of the
state of California and was erected in 1849
by the Rev. Walter Colton, Chaplain of the
frigate Congress, and Alcalde of Monterey
1846-1848. The first Constitutional Convention
met here on Sept. 1st, 1849.
