Manistique, Michigan
Known to the Indians as "The Mirror of Heaven,"
the Big Spring is one of the major natural attrac-
tions of Michigan's upper peninsula. The Spring
is from 40 to 60 feet deep, and from 300 to 400
feet across the top. The sides slope toward the
center so that they resemble a bowl. A raft with
observation ports makes it possible for as many
as 50 people to cross the Spring and view or photo-
graph the various springs that feed it and the few
fish that can survive its icy waters.
