THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE BISONTE is
of the Elizabethan period, the construction being
like an old English manor house, with tiled roof
and wooden rafters. Bisonte is the Spanish word
for buffalo; this country was covered with
roaming herds of buffalo not very many years
ago: This section is now one of the most im-
portant agricultural areas in the Union, but it is
for the Salt industry that Hutchinson is famous.
Enormous deposits of rock salt underlie the
whole section. The city lies at an altitude of
1541 feet and the population is about 12,000.
