220152. Tampico is the center of the Mexican
oil region, where Americans have considerable inter-
ests, and on Dec. 10th, 1913, the armored cruisers
“Chester” and “Wheeling.” were outside the city,
ready at a moment's notice from Rear Admiral
Fletcher to get as close to the situation as their
light draught would permit. The Customs House,
which was one of the main points of attack planned
by the rebels is the handsome two-storied building
in left background.
