California
By A. CAMERON
O California vast and great
You are the grand old Golden State,
love your mountains high, sublime,
That can defy the wear of time;
I love to sit beside the sea
And have the breezes bring to me
A message from the Great Unknown-
Where Cruso dwelt on his Isle alone;
I love to lie in the orange grove,
And dream of cheer and peace and love;
I love to know that all around-
On sea and land and underground
Sweet peace and joy and rest abound.
This is the land of which poets sang
Whose praises through the ages rang;
Where men may sit and dream all day,
Warmed by the sun's most genial ray,
And lie then down at night to sleep,
Cooled by the breezes from the deep,
And Queens of all this lovely land,
Twin Cities by the sea do stand
And to these Cities, from far and near,
Each passing day and month and year,
All people swiftly rush and come;
To build and make a happy home,
That here may dwell a noble race
Of stalwart men and Ladies of Grace.
