The Grand Canyon of Arizona, reached by a branch of the main California line of the Santa Fe, is "a terrific trough, a mile deep, ten to twenty miles wide, hundreds of miles long, peopled with hundreds of peaks taller than any mountain east of the Rockies, and all ablaze with such colors as no European landscape ever knew, even in the Alpen-glow." At the foot of Bright angel Trail, seven miles distant from El Tovar Hotel, and a mile below, is the Colorado river. The Temple of Zoroaster may be seen from this point. |
