Named after Lieut. Thomas Selfridge who
was the first Army pilot to be killed in the
first Army airplane accident, Selfridge Field is
one of the largest, most modern Army fields in
the Midwest. The newest pursuit planes are
flown here, such as the Bell Airacobra, or P-39;
the Republic P-43, and the Lockheed Interceptor,
the P-38. Selfridge is a city in itself, expand-
ing and increasing its operation facilities daily.
