THE GOGEBIC RANGE, NEAR HURLEY, WIS.
AND IRONWOOD, MICHIGAN
The ore is first brought to the surface from
different levels of this deep-shaft underground
mine. It is loaded from enormous stock piles
into cars by the electric power shovel and
sent by rail to Ashland, Wis. where it is re-
loaded into giant freighters that take the ore
to the steel mills at the lower end of the Great
Lakes.
