“MEN OF LETTERS."
Mark Twain, the American humorist, whose real
name is Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was born at
Florida, Missouri, November 30th, 1835. His career
has been varied, he learnt the trade of printing, and
was a pilot on the Mississippi River, he was a miner
in Nevada and Editor of a paper in Virginia. In 1864
he became a journalist and lecturer. He is a most
delightful writer. Among his chief books may be
mentioned: - “ The Innocents Abroad,” “Tom
Sawyer,” “A Tramp Abroad” and “The Adventures
of Huckleberry Finn."
