THE HOMESTEAD-Joseph Smith Residence
Nauvoo, Illinois-1839-1843
The Homestead was Joseph Smith's first home in Nau-
voo. The log portion was built in 1803 as Illinois'
first Indian agency. The Mansion House was built in
1842 because with the influx of settlers and visitors
the Homestead became inadequate to accommodate
those who wished to visit Joseph Smith.
