LAKE TAHOE
Lake Tahoe, by the crest of the Sierra Nevada, is of glacial
origin, 21.6 miles long and 12 miles wide, with a surface
area of 193 square miles. The legal name of the body of water
is Lake Bigler. The long wharf at Bijou (jewel) bay was first
built to dock lumber schooners where from 1860 to 1900
lumber was moved to Gleenbrook where it was shipped to
Virginia City to line the tunnels of the Comstock Lode...M.P.
