CAVE ROCK-Highway 50
Highway 50 skirts the southern shore of Lake Tahoe. A
double tunnel has been driven through a large rock that was
formed by glaciation and faulting. The first white man to see
this lake was John C. Freemont who discovered it from the
heights of Steven's Peak (10,100 ft. alt.) on Feb. 14, 1844.
The lake has been called by several names with the popular
name of Lake Tahoe, but with a legal name of Lake Bigler for
the third governor of California...M.P.
