FROM WASHINGTON MALL, NEWPORT,
R. I. Old State House, builta 1739, was first
capitol of Rhode Island under England's rules.
After the Revolutionery War, it was one of
Rhode Island's two Capitols, and while they
had this arrangement the Governor was inau-
gurated from the balcony overlooking the
Mall. The Y. M. C. A. is a new building,
built for the use and benefit of the enlisted
men of the U. S. Army and Navy.
