Louisville, Kentucky
Louisville, Kentucky's largest city, was founded by
George Rogers Clark, conqueror of the northwest
in 1798. He and 13 families came down the Ohio
River and located on Corn Island, opposite the
present site of the city. The next year they moved
to the mainland and built a permanent settlement
where Louisville now stands.
