THE ROYAL HOTEL, FORMERLY THE OLD
ST. LOUIS, NEW ORLEANS, LA.-Erected in 1835
and was the leading hostelry and the gathering place
for the society of the city. The old Slave Block, from
tvhich slaves were sold at auction, is still to be seen
within its walls. In 1874 the building was leased to
to the State and was used as the Capitol, afterwards
being purchased by the State and occupied until 1882.
Its ball rooms were noted throughout the world.
