The Cajon Pass at the summit of the Coast Range
is the Santa Fe's gateway to Southern California.
The train drops from the keeping of plateau, desert
and snowy peaks, to the sunny valleys of Southern
California. In the descent from the summit
(altitude 3819) a drop of 2700 feet is made in
twenty-five miles.
