T'S a far cry from the box
car depot established by the
Santa Fe at Ponca City, in
1894, and the enlarged and
completely remodeled station
opened and dedicated on
April 5, 1946. During this
period Ponca City has de-
veloped into a thriving agri-
tural and industrial center of
more than 20,000 people,
and is one of the largest
shipping points on the Santa
Fe System Lines. Ponca City
was originated in 1893, on
rails which the Santa Fe laid
from the Kansas line, in
1886, and a year later ex-
tended across Oklahoma—to-
day the popular route from
Chicago to the Gulf of Mex-
ico.
