Castellamare. This Castle-by-the-sea has sprung up
like a phoenix from the ashes of the town that preceded
it on this site, a flourishing place called Stabia that was
destroyed by a volcanic eruption as Pompeii was, and at
the same time (A.D. 79). Castellamare is a busy port as
well as a beautiful city, and has an important arsenal of its
