Discovered in 1864 by prospectors
who shouted "Eureka"(I have found
it),this camp grew slowly.It had
vaşt ore bodies,bụt not till 1870
did men learn how to work them.
A population of 10,000 produced
$60,000,000 in gold and silver
and over 500,000,000 pounds of
iead.breaking the world lead
market.Stage coaches connected
with Central Pacific north at
Palisade until the narrow gauge
Eureka and Palisade railway was
built. The town suffered the usual
fires,booms.busts,and dwindled
until recently, when mining has
taken a renewed activity.
