VICTORVILLE, CALIFORNIA
This desert town, located on the Mojave River was called
Mormon Crossing from 1878 to 1885, later was called Victor
and later to its present name. From 1914 to 1937 there were
over 200 motion pictures made here. William Hart made his
first picture here in 1914. Others who made western pictures
here were Harry Carey, Tom Mix and Hoot Gibson. The first
talking picture by Warner Baxter was made here, In OLD
ARIZONA. Will Rogers was a frequent and popular visitor.
Today Victorville has lost that western look and has lost
its movie trade ... M.P.
