This is a prosperous and progressive town that had its beginning
as a Mojave River Camp back in 1878 and from that time until
the middle 1885 was known as Mormon Crossing. By 1886
mining had become the principle activity of the community
and was called Victor, later the name was changed to Victor-
ville. Today the area is known as Mojave River Valley and
has an extensive agricultural district. A short distance from
Victorville is found the Applevalley Ranch and Hesperia
